MACRO - HISTORY

1973

GS & RA MATHEWS IS BORN

Founders Gavin & Ruth Mathews move to Shepparton, VIC, starting their own business in their backroom at 4 Talinga Cres - fixing electrical componentry on domestic appliances + also industrial instrumentation for the likes of SPC, Golburn Valley Water + Campbell Soup.

1974

FIRST RETAIL + SERVICE SHOP

With business in the electrical repair business starting to grow, it was time to rent our first retail/workshop location - 83 Archer St, Shepparton

1981

1983

PURCHASED OUR FIRST PERMANANT HOME

Setting down a permanent place of business we purchased 25 Clarke St, Shepparton.

THE TEAM GROWS

Gavin's son Bruce Mathews joins the team, making the business a second generation family business.

SHEPELEC SERVICES - A NEW NAME

With the growth of the business a more fitting name was required, and so GS+RA Mathews became  Shepelec Services.

CAN YOU FIX A WELDER?

How did we get into welders? Well CIGWELD actually approached us and asked if we could become a service agent to repair their welders... next minute we are fixing dozens of them, and not just for CIGWELD but for tradies and businesses right across Australia.

DISTRIBUTOR FOR WELDERS?

Fixing welders day in and day out, we became known very quickly as specialists in the field. The next natural progression was to start distributing them, after all we litreally know them inside + out!

1997

UPSIZING!

Between distributing more and more fabrication related products and keeping up our specialist service team - larger premises were in order. Moving in to 77 Drummond Road, Shepparton we purpose build our current building to meet our growing needs.

2001

STILL GROWING! 

In 2001 we were running out of space and needed to extend our distribution centre and service workshop, so we DOUBLED the size of our premises.

2005

THIRD GENERATION

Jerry joins the business as a serviceman rookie. Putting in the grunt work, starting from the bottom! 

2006

CHANGING HANDS

Bruce Mathews takes over as Managing Director while Gavin + Ruth begin to enjoy a well earned retirement!

MACRO IS BORN

With the changing of the guard, it was time for a re-brand to better position ourselves as specialists for welding-related products, so Shepelec became MACRO.

MACRO MIG WIRE

MACRO launches their own brand of products starting with MIG wire.

2009

FIRST CATALOGUE 

Launch of 50 page comprehensive product guide, printed and distributed to our entire customer base.

This was no small feat, with over 16,000 products listed within those 50 pages!

2011

LAUNCED OWN BRAND OF WELDERS

With an intimate knowledge of all things welding machines and now over 40 years experience in industry, it was time to try our hand at manufacturing our own products.

Tech Weld is MACRO's owned, designed and manufactured range of welders with all of the features that welders have come to love coming standard.

2012

WECO DISTRIBUTOR

Constantly seeking out premuim machinery, we became a WECO dealer.

An Italian machine, these babies really are the next gen of welders with features that leave others in the market for dust with their highly advanced technologies and settings, making welds perfect every time, taking out the guess work.

2019

MACRO WELD

Trialing out a new brand identity the MACRO weld globe was launced for a short period of time.

CNC DEPARTMENT COMES TO LIFE


With so much experience in all things fabricating and manufacturing and having sold CNC's to existing customers, it was time for us to officially launch our range of CNC Plasma cutting solutions to the market.

After much R&D, travel, sourcing, late nights and a lot of coffee we started manufacturing our MACRO CNC Plasma cutting machines.


We officially started advertising our MACRO branded CNC Plasma Cutting Solutions as one of our core products!

2020

MACRO WHO?

With so many new divisions of MACRO coming to life, individual brand identities were trailed

With so many new divisions + products, it was time to update our digital presence.

STILL GROWING!

With our product range continuing to grow we needed more space, again... so we managed to get our hands on another smaller warehouse behind our existing premises and also secured a dedicated premises for our growing CNC department. This new building became home for all things CNC from the sales team to the tech's, assembly, QC checking process, pre-test every machine & MORE!

2021

MACRO IS RE-BORN

Having grown so much in such a short amount of time - it was time to get back to our roots as 'MACRO' with a new brand identity that is here to stay!

E-COMMERCE

With COVID-19 drastically changing the way we shop and acquire new product, e-commerce was born with our new website www.macrosupply.com.au

A TRUE FAMILY BUSINESS

2021 welcomed Bruce's youngest son & daughter to the team - Jackson & Ella Mathews, cemmenting this family business firmly into its 3rd generation.

MACRO FIBRE LASER CNC SOLUTIONS

Wanting to offer our customers greater options for their CNC cutting needs MACRO launched their own line of Fibre Laser CNC Machines.


But this was no small project, with 12 months invested in R&D, rigerous testing, implementation of stringent quality assurance processes... and much more, MACRO's Fibre Lasers were ready for launch, knowing that the machines lived up to the MACRO difference & repuatation.
